As boring as usual, I shall talk about what happened today. Anyhow I went to see Yin Cheng Zong perform Yellow River Concerto with SCO. Really really exciting opportunity to hear the composer perform his own piece! But before that I had to sit through random other stuff like Bizet, and Ravel piano concerto. Actually the Ravel is pretty interesting, becuase it starts out very much like Poulenc Concerto for two piano! With a bang and piano flourishing. Goes to further my awe for Ravel as being a great composer, and sucks to dominic who still think's Ravel writes random dots and lines =D. In fact Ravel is almost as good as Poulenc... or rather hm Poulenc is almost as good as Ravel. Stuff like concert for organ second movement is kinda bleah. Anyhow, this not quite neoclassical, not quite 20th century french music that amalgamates jazz, modality, virtuosity, impressionism is pretty cool. Especially when you throw in a piano =D (or an organ) However, I think the second movement got a bit sleepy after a while, and the third was omg messy. I guess it was passable, but still...one would expect a bit more professionalism?
Yellow River however was a completely different story. Very impressive and it just got better. Haha of course no one can dispute him on his intepretation (I always found that fact really cool, what with all the dispute on intepretations being better and such) it really was amazing. His expression was true and touching, and it flowed naturally. Somehow when it's done perfectly smoothly, it feels too square, and when its done too rubato'd it feels too forced, but when Yin did it, it was just right. The first movement unfortuneately had the SCO rushing it, but I'll give it's ANNOYINGLY difficult to pre-empt the accelerando of the pianist. (given experience with junqi). The third movement brought a smile to my face as I recalled the incident that Tommy had us all spellbound that we all forgot our entry... I especially loved the section that sounds like a pipa, with the repeated notes. The length of each note seemed so perfect, and yet not too hurried. The fourth movement was quite spectacular. Granted he hit omega wrong notes (like with octaves) but you've got to forgive an old man! And he played with such fiery spirit that the audience could not help but to give him the standing ovation.
Ok that's enough gushing about the performance. I've got his autograph and I'm happy. Yay. Haha interesting facts, I noticed there was this really shunta-esque erhu player! really thin and tall and moves like he moves. joyce and boyi were watching the concert too, and it was exciting to meet them =))
Ok hard to imagine barely 12 hours ago I was having omg H3 math paper. Which was thankfully so do-able. I can't believe after studying graph theory 3 weeks ago, deciding to drop it and not touch it ANYMORE. Today I went to do the graph theory question. It was SO much easier than the plane geometry question 6 (which was on the same page). After staring at the damn question 6 for half an hour, I glanced down to the graph theory question 7, and hey.... it's... do-able! Requires no prior knowledge of theorems, and just a basic understanding of graph theory. whee. Chemistry on the other hand, I dont know, and don't wish to discuss it.
Today was also quite a happy day, cos lots of nice things happened, like little things that go a long way! so smile! =)

It's nearly over! Whee, and Quantum of Solace is actually quite interesting if not though a bit confusing. Footchase, carchase, boatchase...airplanechase?! (gosh they just HAD to have one of those) Anyway, went with the really cool 6P, but too bad dominic didn't come along, because the big bad guy of the movie was dominic, and environmentalist who has really nasty ulterior motives. Gosh I can('t) imagine dom being such an environmentalist some time in the future.
Anyway, thus far, A levels have been... not too disgusting, other than GP which I possibly wrote out of topic for... or rather limiting the topic too much. Chem paper 3 was not as great as I would have liked, maths remains fun, and physics thankfully doable. The scariest thing I'm facing is probably H3 math, which has the capacity to be painfully difficult, IF cambridge wants to be REALLY mean. The buildup to music will be really exciting!! (and now I'm not even linking my sentences properly) And then after that we'll have a partitakadimi! Which is probably such a cool word that if you google it, the only thing that comes up is this blog =))
Still looking forward to the end of As, and gosh uni app essays. Then I can do stuff, like learn to drive, learn to cook cooler stuff, learn japanese, learn this, learn that, and in general have a lot of fun.
Also, I would like to recommend everyone "arekara" from full metal panic! It's potentially the nicest anime song I have heard thus far. (Song, NOT instrumental/soundtrack) I'm trying to write the score for it, but... will take a while. Haha and I'm also dilemma-ing between C# major or Db major, cos my brain is processing it as C# major (maybe because the recording is kinda sharper pitched) but then Db major is so much prettier to write in. But after A levels! Time to go back to finding out Hamiltonian circuits, and pondering if Massa would have won if he used an Eulerian circuit instead.

why are you all studying? -fg

Ok now prelims are over. Not too fantastic but I guess I'll find out more tmr ><
Anyhow today was a fun class gathering to the Singapore Biennale! The works there are pretty interesting I really wonder what inspires the artists to create the works. Some of them are... a bit odd and I guess I can't appreciate them, but I do like the "mainstream appreciable" kind of works that just have the "nice" factor. Or the "woah" factor. The Singapore installation was particularly quaint, as all visitors get to stick a little sticker on a huge map of Singapore and write something on it. Being boring I went to stick one where my house is, nothing quite so exciting as Ronald Chan's "YONGHAN FOR PROM KING" over RJ. But seriously, Yonghan for Prom King NAO.
Then another nice piece is "I wonder why?" with charcoal sculptures. Admitedly I wouldnt have noticed it if Yihui hadn't gone "ooh tambura." and we followed the sound to the dimly lit room with these numerous sculptures. I think the artist's intention to make people reflect on the possibility of firey destruction was very compelling, as it drove me to think about that even before I read the description.
The Yellow Mountain by Tse Su-Mei is something I have slight contention with though. I'm absolutely positive that this video and sound installation takes its sound from the Princess Mononoke soundtrack by Joe Hisaishi. However it doesn't seem to be credited anywhere, not even in the vastness of google. Perhaps it's possible that Hisaishi did not compose the theme originally either, and that it's actually some traditional chinese theme, but I can't seem to find any info on that either. Oh well. As Mr Gooi always says, music in nature is copied. Or something to that effect.
One really really cool piece is "I'm not expensive" and it uses illusionary tricks on the eye to create motion and a 3-D effect. It's pretty incredible, and I was fascinated enough to pace back and forth in front of it for several minutes.
Oh well, that's enough about the biennale I guess. Something else really cool happened today, it struck me how small Singapore was, because for the first time, I bumped into more than ten different people individually and coincedentally. It's amazing. Like on the average I don't meet ANYONE when I go out, though perhaps one once in a while. And today, around City Hall, eleven. And another class (aaron chee/brian cheung's and etc's class) who were visiting the Biennale. Argh and Berny was with them, which translates into the fact that Ben COULD have joined us. But he decided to be a very good boy with a strong sense of duty.
Ok so A levels are in 5 days. Gasp. Music practical is freaky, I hope it's going to go better than prelims, but my violin kind of stagnated during the weeks of prelims. I'm really appreciative of Stephanie and my quartet for having to put up with my calling of so many rehearsals over this week. And now I should get back to practising, or packing.

Down once more to the dungeons of my dark despair

09:59 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008

Under an ultimatum, I have been coerced into blogging. Justin said "You blog less than me! and that's saying a LOT" However I think whenever you blog, you must be in the right state of mind, otherwise whatever you write won't really reflect how you feel. Hm one of the things I've sort of learnt/realised on this trip, is the importance of state of mind, like before you do something of emotional importance, a performance, writing a letter, problem solving, your state of mind determines what the product will be like.
I could blog in a detailed day 1 - 9 description, or I could break the trip into its elements. I'll probably do a mix of that though, in some warped way. Anyhow, I'm being rude to my audience, (for the first time I think I'm acknowledging the reader) I just got back from SNYO Italy trip! It's my second trip with SNYO, and my last with them, and it's been another fantastic trip, a rollercoaster of emotion and music, making new friends with some, and deepening friendships with others.
Watched Juno and 300 on the plane trip there, two very different movies. Appreciated Juno for the beauty of story, (and ellen page XD) and 300 for the general smashfest. We touched down in Milan, and went over to the city center where we saw things like the Duomo (theres Duomo everywhere in italy!) And we got our first experience with harrassing, like tedson who fed the pigoens and was forcibly charged like 20 Euro. Walked around Milan with Justin, Wenrong, Jiarong, Yuanjun and Stho, ending up in Macs, trying our first Italian fast food! They have patate vertigo, which is twister fries (why cant they have that in Singapore) and they are good stuff. Then after that I just felt a little bad for bringing Wenrong to macs cos he's vegetarian. We walked around trying to find a supermarket, and were directed there by the tourist information center. However we walked and walked and couldnt find it, so we decided to turn back at this CD store. Of all quaint things, we realised that the supermarket was just NEXT to the CD store and we have almost overlooked it. K.O. We went in, and our efforts were rewarded with 30eurocent 1.5l bottles of water. (as compared to 1 euro 500ml bottles) On the way back to the bus, we spotted super affordable flower stands, and decided to buy flowers for (almost) all the girls in SNYO! [almost because the flowers came in 20s and there were 40+ girls] That was followed by a long 4 hour bus journey to Montecartini Terme, where we would spend most of the rest of our trip. Sat with Deborah and prevented her from sleeping by being very noisy =) Dinner at the hotel would foreshadow our next ten or so meals there to come. There would be a pasta starter, a salad bar, a main course and a dessert. In general the pasta started well, the salad eventually got boring, the main course would occasionally be really good, and other times would be beef, in which I would have to join Zoe and other good buddhists in asking for vegetarian. The desserts were... interesting, but most times I was too full to eat it. (unless it was icecream which happened about thrice)
The next 3 days were spent sightseeing, going to interesting places like Lucca, Florence and Pisa! Lucca was really fun, cos we rented bicycles and just cycled around the wall of Lucca enjoying fantastic scenery. Going cam crazy on a bike is pretty fun, and took lots of shots. (which i would still have had not something unfortunate happened to my memory card...) Had my first taste of Gelato in Lucca too, except the it was a little pricey, and frankly it wasn’t particularly tasty either. However, as the days went on, the gelato we found in general tasted better =) We also found this fantastic shopkeeper who ran some shop selling woven items, that he could personalise. He was absolutely hilarious, and got us all the buy things. His english was pretty good, and his sales banter was smooth (as smooth as the badly melted gelato I had just eaten). He told us that he could personalise things in 5 to 7 seconds, so fast that he and Vin Diesel would star in the next "fast and the furious" except that they would feature sewing machines and not cars. Got my sister a birthday present there too =)
Florence was another pretty town, with some really picturesque landscape, especially along the River Arno. I climbed all the way to the top of the Duomo with Mr david tan, jeremy jinghui and emmanuel. The narrow staircases that went up and up and up and up seriously make you marvel at the way the building was designed, how to incorporate functionality into a building without destroying aesthetics. After climbing for like half a century, we reached the top, and the view was definitely worth it. However, that pretty much made us late for Uffizi gallery, and Mr Tan had to do a public apology on our behalf. Mr tan you rock =) At the gallery, I hitched onto a guided tour (though sometimes receiving glares from those who…possibly had paid for the tour) and learnt more about Florentine Art in 15-16 hundreds. Randomly, I find it a very interesting thing how people who don’t pay for tour guides still hitch onto groups to learn more, then those who paid get pissed off, (like how we felt in the Uk-paris mep trip) But when you think about it, the tour guide likes it, because tour guides in general, love their profession, and hence love to tell people more stories of the past and enlightening them, and also the hitch-oners learn more too, so both parties actually benefit. And you can just be Leening about it, with a forceful personality, resolutely resisting any annoyed glares.
Pisa is another great tourist trap, especially the Leaning Tower. The last time I went there exactly ten years ago, people weren’t allowed up. This time, they were, but we didn’t have time to queue. Oh well. Lots of Leening related humour, and we ended up walking around Pisa taking lots of photos. The funniest thing about the Leaning Tower is when you look around, and you see people doing funny pushing stances, and you realise that they are trying to take funny photos of trying to hold up the tower. It’s priceless when you look down a line, and there are 5 people doing it concurrently all not knowing how funny they look like to other spectators.
The last place we went for sighseeing was Siena (sian –ah related humour) and San Gimigniano. These places are simply beautiful, with the truly amazing “hills of Tuscany” landscapes. There was actually a torture museum that Justin and I wanted to go to, but then we got scared off, cos the entrance fee was even more torturous. Siena was also where we saw the most imba drivers ever. The roads in Siena are treacherously slanted, and people are expected to park sideways down them. Whoever parks the cars there is truly skilled. The Duomo in Siena has this incredible marbled floor, which is made of 56 marbled panels, including a panel depicting none other than Remus and Romulus. (zomg romulus doesn’t hit the spellcheck whereas remus does…) Evidently it was the children of Remus who had founded Siena. Cool stuff.
Randomly, Jinjun has just posted Kelly Tang’s symphonic suite on youtube, and I urge you all to watch it! It means a lot to me, and I think it does to everyone in SNYO too. SNYO plays Kelly Tang! The concerts in Italy were all very exciting and gave me an experience I would never forget. Playing a solo with an orchestra has always been one of my minor goals in my life, and now that I’ve done it, I’d say it’s an amazing experience. To finish the last note, to hear the deafening silence, to put down your bow, to savour the eruption of applause, and to acknowledge it. It felt almost ethereal, like I wasn’t really there, or like I was flying without wings. I’m infinitely grateful to Mr Lim for giving me this once in a lifetime opportunity, appreciative to my family for being there to watch me, and immensely thankful to the whole SNYO for supporting me all the way, from encouraging me, going all out to play for me and accompany me, and congratulating me. I hope you have enjoyed the music as much as I have. It’s said that the Butterfly Lover’s concerto properly played, can make people cry. As sadistic as it gets, I’m satisfied to know that I touched others with my music, that I drew tears from others, and even myself. The two times I played, once in Spa Tettuccio and the other in S. Stefano, I would say were two different experiences. Personally, I would say the first concert was better played, technically, I had less mistakes, and emotionally, I had the vision of perfect love. I played knowing my family was there to watch me, and I wanted to make their extra trip down to watch me worthwhile. Though my mom and I often don’t get along well, and I’m often a jerk to her, I’m really glad for these moments when she tells me how proud she is of me, and I can tell her how much I love her. The second concert started differently, I came in late for rehearsal after getting lost, which was immensely frustrating. Getting lost is a heck of an experience, it tests your problem solving skills and ability to communicate in foreign languages. Strangely the most helpful people you find are tourists and not actual Italian citizens, and this Australian (?) tourist gave us his map and we figured out where to go. The one thing I’ve learnt from that is that don’t be too sure of yourself. The agitation I thought kinda died out, but as I sat listening to the Kelly Tang, I was much more anxious than I had been at the Spa Tettuccio, and it changed my state of mind away from the calmness and the performance I gave had stronger feelings of anger. I unfortunately cracked the tone a few times but on the whole it was more of a passionate performance. As I walked off stage with Mr Lim, I concurred with him that it had not been as good as the previous performance, but somehow there were people who did prefer that performance. I guess subjectivity of music is really a good thing. And on the whole, though my intonation is really not secure, in a performance, it isn’t the small things that make a performance bad, but how the performance appears as a whole. Just as my teacher tells me, a Singaporean audience will zero in on the small bad things, whereas a European audience will appreciate the good things, so just as well I played in Italy instead of Esplanade. I’m glad to have been able to give my all when the occasion called for it, and both times that I played, I wrenched out the abysmal chasms in my heart, and felt for the music with my soul. And I truly want to thank You for the inspiration which you give me. It’s the icing on the cake that is a solo performance.
The final concert in my SNYO term was another great experience, though I didn’t feel too strongly for the first half of the performance, the Dvorak was fantastic. We didn’t really rush like we usually did, and I felt for every single note that we played. All the way from the conductor’s smile of encouragement to the last triumphant chord, Dvorak 6th went really well, like a magical moment in time. I used to think that doing Dvorak 6 wasn’t a good idea, cos it was too “happy” and didn’t feel like Dvorak, but now I’m glad that we chose it, as the happiness is really what we should all feel in life, not to emo and brood over the end of term, but to savour the happiness that we have felt in SNYO. The William Tell encore was another exciting episode, I remember feeling this emotion of “This is the last time I get to play a piece with SNYO, and I will give it everything” and I just blasted the final fast passage right out. I don’t know if we were rushing (we probably were) but it was completely exhilarating and the audience loved it. The William Tell has so much in common with the Radetsky, in that the Italian audience adores it like the Vienna audience adores Radetsky. When I hear wenrong and his trumpet section blasting out the first few distinctive notes, there is instantly an excited murmur that travels through the audience, and it makes me want to give them the treat that they are looking for/expecting. The night, we gave the audience what they wanted to hear, and I am so happy that my last concert with SNYO went really well, and it ended with something that I can remember for life. My time in SNYO has been very fulfilling, and I am really glad to have been a part of SNYO, something that I have put so much of my being into, and this beautiful ending is simply so sweet.

Now I really have to thank everyone in the orchestra for being great and fantastic:
Group 7 people – Christopher, Benjamin, Hazizi, the three jokers who never cease to amuse, and are ever so helpful with the logistics. You guys are really great people! Dinah, Shufang, Michelle, Naijing, Melissa, the rest of the group who have stuck by me and were never tired of the endless headcounts and such! Jinjun, my roomie who is always so fun to talk to, a great source of friendship and support, I appreciate it very much! Lanabel, my AGL, you have been so helpful to me as AGL, and as my ex desk partner, we’ve had many funny and yummy times together! I know you’ll have a bright future ahead of you!
Aldwyn, Jinhao, Wenrong, Jeremy always great to rely on, really fun to talk to and hang out with, giving me much added insight on life!
Bernard, Wengsiong, Yihong, together we make a great percussion quartet =) Especially thanks to Bernard for being so impossibly nice to me, (and Pigle) I’ll try to keep smiling! Hope you have a great time in Norway+Sweden!
Kelly, jelly belly Kelly, your ghost stories and bubbly personality always add extra fun into whatever we’re doing!
Shuqi, hanging out with you is always really fun, I just must constantly deflate your ego =) haha just kidding. Thank you especially (and Kelly and qinyi, for writing me concert notes for my performance! They were the only notes I received!)
Justin, for being my gay partner (omg let’s hope someone doesn’t find out) and giving great free massages and being just so fun to talk to always.
The rest of the winds! Yunsong (with the absolutely random but hilarious humour), Qinyi, Jiarong, Chienteng, Yuanjun(with the half irish/American/british/sweedish/whatever accent), Daphne, Rafidah, Sophia, Danny and Minyen (plane buddy!) you’ve all been a wonderful group of winds, who play well together and have lots of fun together!
The basses, Tedson, Benjamin, Yuze, Huiyan, Sandra, Dinah, Shufang, Claron the 8 of you are so closely knit, it’s so envy-innvoking. You all like it big, and so do I =)
Adriel the Chang, totally unique sense of humour, very pro cellist, you did an excellent job playing your solo part in the concerto, and I’m more than honoured to have played with you and to shake your hand after each performance. Thank you for all the effort you’ve put in as a cellist, and an enthusiastic EXCO member.
Samtho, my other roomie, I’m sorry that I sometimes seem to ignore you, but I really do appreciate your friendship, and thank you for always being there!
The rest of the cellists, Julia, Evangeline, Carolyn, Shauna (another plane buddy!) Zhuen, Pamela, hope you all stay pro at cello! You’re all very exciting people!
Jingting, Grace, Jieying, I still use the three of your names interchangeably =) Kidding. I’m glad to have finally got to know the three of you, and you’re all nice and fun-loving people!
Jonlim, I’ve always admired the way that you carry yourself, not being affected by others. You’re a fun quartet player, and cycling around Lucca was really enjoyable!
Wenyi, thank you for being who you are to me. You’ve been a really capable leader and have helped much to make SNYO as bonded as it now! Rock on!
The rest of the violas, Jonkoh, Wangxiang, Xueqian, Emmanuel, Theodore, you’re also very well bonded and I like that fact about you all! Stay close as a viola section!
Margaret, you’re the most exciting, unfazed direct junior, and I’ve really enjoyed talking to you. Hope you help lead the violin 2s to a bright future!
Claire and Deborah, you’re a very interesting set of twins, and it’s always great to talk to both of you!
All the rest of the violins!!! Maryanne (the ever concerned), Renee (the super smart), Joanne(the macho!), Selina (I totally can look like you), Davin (who has suddenly become really funny), Theokwek, Keven, Emily (the dominant), Weiken (the other butterfly), Queenie, Leejing, Junqi (who I’ve known since forever and been with on THREE trips already!), Angela, Zara, Nicolas, Ryce, Fangying, Haowei (aka Bob), Jinghui (also been on three trips! Woah), Ryan kwan +goh, Evan, Xiuyi, Serene, Zoe, Weile, YingEr, Yunwei you’re all a promising bunch of violinists, I hope you’ll do well =)
And last but not least, my desk partner, Ning! For being totally a great CM, leading the orchestra well, being just simply super pro at it! Thank you for talking to me, and being my best friend, and lending me your camera and everything =)

So thus goes out all my thanks to everyone in SNYO, my four years in SNYO (and 3 in TO before that) have truly been fantastic. Never in any other organization have I put so much of my heart body and soul into, and it was absolutely worth it. It has shaped my life into who I am today, and I now gladly join the SNYO alumni without regret, simply missing YOu.

life may not be perfect, but the music you play makes it more beautiful

After an impossibly long time of not blogging. I feel like it again!
YO concert just ended! Maestro Bundit has been a blast to work with. He's really great, full of energy and enthusiasm! I'm really glad that he came down to work with us, so THANK YOU! I'm also elated that the GIANT card we all wrote on worked out and he looked happy receiving it at the end of the concert =)) Also, Wen Rong had his shot at solo with Haydn =) I'm glad he played really well today! (sadly as an accomp we didn't quite fare as well) Though balance was good =) The shostakovich was good =) really fun, though we ended up rushing like siao anyway. As for tchaik. hmm don't really quite no what to say, other than we could have done better. But seriously kudos to the horn basson and clarinet soloists. I'm always literally blown away.
Haha I think one of the most memorable instances in your life will probably be when you finish the last note of a solo performance in a concert hall. WR said how he was happy, and he could now walk in walk out, shake hands shake hands, bow here bow there, etc. All spawns from the elation of having finished it. I've still got a lot of prac-ing to do.
Got MEP prac results back today. Suffice to say, absolutely completely sucky. Comments by teachers "You need to practise more!!!" My intonation is as crap as RI dining hall food. And I don't synergise well enough with my accomp (well at least only that day. Damnit Royce I'm sorry) So much to prac for and so little time.
Chamber concert is on the 15th of April, and ALL of us desperately need to practise too >< Really hope that it can be pulled off. Ms Ku says we can, but she might have just been being polite. Thankfully now we have Juan to help us! Yay I'm really grateful to have him =)
To continue in my post-concert euphoria, I'd like to thank everyone I know who came down to watch today!!! I'm really glad that you came: MEPPERS like boyi, zenn, royce, MRS CHEE =DDD Ex YO seniors like jon gan and lee, alan kartik, herbert yunyuan raphael joel ruolin! Ex YO ppl kenneth, tingxi, Current YO but sadly harpist, Miffie and Laura, Friends! natalie, xianying, jianyang, chester, jeremy, CHAMBER JUNIORS (omg you guys rock) yiyang, fen wee, eunice, peikhee, enqi. And all the cool and happening ppl that I might have forgotten (with apologies) or didnt realise were around thank you =) I hope you enjoyed the concert tonight!!! I ESPECIALLY want to thank those that gave me FLOWERS! I love you ppl lots =)))) cos one can never get enough flowers.
Ok enough raving for now, it's getting fairly late, and I still have school tmr, and had school today as well, (unlike certain PONNERS with the initials JJ) so goodnight! Anyone who would like photos that I took can just msn me or smth =))

10:10 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2007

The third time I'm typing out the sentence, "SYO concert last night!" to try to blog. Each time i get distracted, come back, and open the page again. Finally after reading other blogs, I think I'll do it.
SYO concert last night! I think it was a blast. In more way than one. I think we all played too loudly for the Mendelssohn, so balance was bad... but that aside, Lanabel was fantastic. I bet I'll eventually be pointing to her face in a concert programme in Esplanade 10 years down the road saying smugly "she used to be my desk partner". Then the Dance of the Hours. The false start...possibly one of the worst things to happen to a performance, I thought for a fleeting moment then, that Mr Lim stopped us because we were rushing, but no matter how bad you rush, no conductor would stop a performance right? Bleah, feel really bad for the wind played who came on late... and for Mr Lim >< Then again they always say, sandwich the bad between two goods. Death and Transfiguration was worth it. All the hard work, the sweat and tears, we did it well. I'm glad it came off well. I really hope we touched the audience with it. Though I suppose it is hard for some to understand, I know Mr Lim was touched, and I'm really happy we did it well. For him. For us. For the first time, he shook my hand and said "Thank you very much." and in my heart, I said the same to him. The encore piece, sadly did not elicit the laughter I had so hoped for. But I'm sure that they enjoyed it very much, being the rahrah kind of piece. Though Rayner says that Mozart is awfully easy to parody. I think it's pure genius to christmas-ize the work of a musical genius =)
But indeed, the concert was great. And I'm glad to have stayed in Singapore to play for it. My ISLE team gets back from Thailand on Dec 2nd, I hope their time spent there was very meaningful, and they have touched the hearts of others there. The dilemma I faced is now over, and no use thinking of "what ifs" and I should be glad for what has happened. And that is precisely what I am.
The fight for the CM seat has also concluded, and I am glad that the best candidate has had it. Lee Ning, you've been a great desk partner thus far, and I hope this partnership will continue till the end of our term. You've always been incredibly pro, practising day in and day out, and working with you is kind or inspiring. I will try to work harder so as not to disappoint others! Though we might not be there yet, I hope we can make a first desk that at least lives up to the expectations of our predecessors, Shaggy and Alan.
In fact, this entire week has been filled with <3 SNYO. The camp on monday and tuesday, I'm really happy that it came through successfully. Stuffing aside high expectations from anyone, I think it's a camp that was well enjoyed, and definitely bonded members of YO. I can now elatedly say that I know at least half the winds and brasses! And almost all the percussionists! I hope that almost everyone in YO can achieve such levels of mutual friendship and knowing =) Well, there's always Florence (who's florence? - Adriel) next year that will definitely be a great bond maker (endothermic reaction). I'd like to say that the YO comm has been great to work with, and together we actually pulled off really funny videos that I think everyone liked! Kudos to Wenyi and WMM.
The SYO-high I got last night still is in the air around me... I'm really glad to be part of SYO and I hope my final year in it, will be just as eventful, memorably and wonderful as the previous years.

Mmm thanks are also in order to those people who came to the concert to support us!!!! Thank you Rayner Shaggy Ruolin Pipetius Alan Yingtse Tingxi Zara Shirong Wenbin Rachel Ivan! For coming and supporting your SYO juniors once again =) (hope i didn't miss out anyone) And thank you amanda! (your hair looks fine!) And mostly, thank you Ivana for never ceasing to surprise me once again! It's once again the only present I received from anyone for a concert...
[Why do girls always get so many flowers...]

Death and Transfiguration tells the story of an old man on his deathbed. His irregular heartbeat symbolised by the syncopated rhythm in the middle strings.

The irregular heartbeat of a dying old man. To talk of it is one thing. To feel it is another. One day to live, two weeks ago. And yet he held on till today. My Ahkong is strong in body. There's a newspaper clipping put up, someone who deals in both kinds of Oil, cooking, and painting. You've painted hundreds of masterpieces in your life. Yet you've kept the family business running strong. My Ahkong is strong in mind. You always took us out to dinner, and even on the hospital bed, you told Kay you would like to take her to a restaurant. You cared for your siblings when your father died. My Ahkong is strong in heart. I'm proud of you. You've lived a fulfilled life. Now, rest in peace.

Death and....

Look! It's moving. It's alive. It's alive... It's alive, it's moving, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE! - Henry Frankenstein

Yup it isn't quite dead yet, I've just been...inspired to blog after visiting some really intellectual and funny blogs. Even though this one isn't quite intellectual. But don't we all try to act pro once in a while?
Promos are finally over!!! ok they've been over for a while, but the glee is lagging on my blog. I think they went better than expected, cos i understood more than i was hoping for. but understood =/= getting it correct. There's careless mistakes, weird formulas (yeah the problem with doing sciences) etcetc. With luck I will get a nice combination of As and Bs. With even more luck, I'll drop the Bs =) That'll prove Lee Chee Keong.

LCK (to yihui) : don't worry larh, you sure will get A
Me : What about me?
LCK : -thinks- let's hope for... a B?
Pueh Leng : HAHAHA (go see class blog for details on PL's HAHAHA 08s06P!)

Anyway Ronald Chan being himself, found a mistake with the maths paper o.O But the teacher refused to believe him. If only the teacher knew who she had been talking to then... He got the error sorted out after the paper. Issues with substituting y,x = 0 in differential equations
Music paper was a nightmare. How dyo describe Raga?!?!... contains Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni. Then hindemith commentary on Kammermusik 2. think i spent way too much time on that, and left me 15 min to write the second essay. Looks like a fail. Thankfully prac was a glazed A. Mr Seah was suprisingly kind, giving me the highest out of all three scores.
That aside Open House is over! Yay i'm glad chamber worked together and made our little part of open house a success! And I think wushu and Mission Lahu also did great jobs! And thanks so much zhaohan for helping out to conduct us!
Eeps then was Nicolson's and Ivana's A level pracs. I'm really really sorry to both of them, I cost Nicolson his 100, and... erm i just didnt do well for Ivana >< Thankfully they are both very forgiving! Omg and Ivana gave me tickets to Zukerman's masterclass!!! Talk about really really really nice-ness. And two tickets! (talk abt sweet-ness)
Hmm now with my sister off in Upenn, and my brother back in Cambridge, I have to constantly show my parents how to use Skype, which is actually quite cool. And I have my bro's com all to myself =) heehee.
Recently went to watch Sibelius Symphonies with Rayner Shaggy and Wenyi, I think Rayner's musical intellectual-ness is just too... aweing. Haha I mean, to not like Tchaikovsky, how muscially intellectual dyo have to be!!! Zomg (or you could just be anti-gay) Oops. yeah but I prefered the 1st symphony to the 3rd, contrary to Rayner, and it PROBABLY doesn't have to do with the fact that I fell asleep in the 3rd.
Then there was The First Emperor with the MEPpers! Who are a bunch of hyped-up uber cool and cute people! There's like Boyi who's cute, Zenn who's cute, Gabriel who's cute, Samuel who's cute, Dom who's cute in a different way (crap i sound damn wrong) Tan Dun's music is... hm very distinctly him and the quartel harmony... Takes time to get used to Domingo dressed in Chinese, singing Italian Operatic styles in English though. But it was quite captivating, especially the use of stage and setting!
Well enough rambling on and on. It's probably time i should be getting to sleep, averaging 2 am for the last 5 or so nights is NOT a good idea. No high-five. (as chianfern would say) Bleah time to get off!

everything i do, i do it for you

There was a GP common test today. It didn't go particularly spectacularly, but hopefully I should get at least a B. However, that excitement aside, what happened later on that day completely blew my day away.

Rugby Cup Final RJC vs ACS(I)

I had already set myself to go, even if I didn't have any friends coming along with me. Luckily I found Sagaana to talk to on the long bus trip to the police academy. The atmosphere when we settled into the police academy wasn't anything thrilling. The plate final had just ended, with JJC clinching the gold. After which was an exhibition touch rugby match. An appitizer of sorts, to the big game. I settled down with Hsuan, Gabrieling, Ngiam, Yix, Yongfats, Jasper, Guang and Zei, as the exhibition match went on, sadly to say, fairly uninterestingly. The council prep for the game was however quite interesting to note, with councillors standing on tables in front of each section of the RJ contingency, with Jerik Mok taking the lead table.
0-0 Finally the match began, with a rousing Hakka by the RJ ruggers, greeted with with nonchalance by the unperturbed AC ruggers. The opening kick by the RJ side was sadly disappointing, a kick that went far and wide... out. The AC side pushed into our half, and seemingly effortlessly put away a free kick.
0-3
The rest of the first half carried on with most of the action taking place in the RJ half of the field. However by some miracle stroke of luck, the RJ ruggers pushed all the way into the AC side, and scored a beautiful try, which drove RJ into a frenzy of cheering, and northsoutheastwest. Moments later, the ref declared half time. Half time, and RJ was leading by a narrow margin of 2 points!
5-3
The action-packed second half began, and before many of us knew what was going on, AC surged and scored a try and conversion. In that small space of time, they were suddenly 5 points up.
5-10
However, the RJ ruggers didn't seem rattled by the sudden overtake, and they fought well and hard, with the next ten minutes or so played deep into the AC territory. The councillors also came up with a really weird cheer "Raffles! * * Own them! * *" which many of us cheered with great aplomnb. At one point of time, the RJ side was playing as close as 5m away from the try line. One rugger even broke through, almost making the try, before being stopped just a bit shy of the line. The RJ crowd was gritting their teeth in anxiety as the ball slowly worked its way closer to the try line, but alas, an AC rugger finally managed to get a kick, and sent the ball flying away. Alas, it was not his day, as an RJ rugger quickly brought the ball back, and a short while later, the second RJ try was scored, as the stands erupted into cheers once more. The score was tied, and time was running out.
10-10
The action level of the game didn't drop just yet. With both sides fighting really hard. At one time, Nazirul very closely stopped the AC side from scoring a try. Eventually, the AC side was awarded a game deciding free kick. The silent hush that accompanies free kicks in Rugby quickly fell over the stadium, as we waited with bated breath for the outcome of the kick. The AC bumblebee ran, and kicked the ball, just a few meters off from the furthermost pole. The game was still on! At full time, the score was tied, and the game would have to go into sudden death.
Sudden death was another tense situation, with the action starting off deep into AC territory. We all felt that the victory was so close, but we simply could not ensure it then. After several minutes of tense ballplay, RJ was now awared a game deciding free kick. Considering that RJ had missed every single free kick and conversion taken in that game, many of us were too scared to even speculate the result. As the RJ rugger prepared to take the kick, the weight of the entire game must have been on him. Knowing that the hopes of his team and all the RJ supporters all lay on him, the pressure must have been unbearable. He handled it well, and as the deathly hush fell over the stadium once again, he took a deep breath, and he kicked. The ball flew, barely grazing the inside of the pole, it was in. The linesman raised his flag, and the RJ contingecy exploded in thunderous cheer. We had won, 13-10.
The councillors and many students, myself included, surged onto the field. Several of the ruggers were crying. It was truly a very touching sight; none of these men with tears in their eyes were sissies, but were truly great men. They had fought with their hearts and their might, and had overcome the AC juggernaut.
The AC team that day certainly had played well, and their effort certainly is commendable, but luck was on our side today, and it was definitely a close and hard fought victory. The challenge cup was given to the team, and so were the gold trophies. We ended off with our standard school anthem - unite - spirit. (Incidentally I was standing next to Mie, but I didn't dare to say anything) It's really in moments like this, when you feel simply passionate about the school, what some say as blood of green black and white. The rugby cup meant a lot to the team, and I am very happy for them. For the first time, the bittersweet smell of mud and sweat was so gratifying, and amazing.
The long bus trip back to the school was nothing wonderful, I fell asleep halfway, but not before I heard someone comment behind me, "That guy will remember the free kick for the rest of his life." Moments like that, really make life something so beautiful.

Raffles! * * Own them! * *

*Gasp* It's alive!
I have actually thought of a good reason as to why I haven't been blogging. It's cos I suck at blogging, and therefore people don't usually do things that they suck at. Unless they want to 1) get better at it, 2) Don't realise that they suck at it. Being that... it's neither 1) nor 2), I think I will continue on this lack of bloging-ness for a while longer. What a pointless revival post.

11:54 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2007

I think it's great that the world still has a lot of decency still left in it. People can still feel bad about things, and genuinely wish to apologise. And it's always nice to forgive as well. I'm glad I didn't lose a friend that I almost didn't make.

Hugs do wonders.

10:48 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2007

owtch i haven't updated in AGES.
and i strangely don't feel like blogging.
Anyway Gold Coast was lots of fun. I decided to go photo crazy and took lots of photos!!! Rah I love my digi cam. I should name it.
Heh it sucks to be underaged when ur siblings go to the casino. Then again they lost a lot of money at blackjack. Granted its only a lot of money to a 20 year old (ie $100 -ish) it's still smth suan-able.
I've realised that a lot of holidays are about, eating, shopping, sightseeing, eating, shopping etc. When you're done with that, you just feel fat and exhausted. Anyhow, I'm glad to be back.

12:26 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2006

Blah, its the last day of school, and school ended at ten. The class party. And getting the class teacher's farewell present ready. It's quite nice I guess, a scrapbook with photos of the class and messages from all of us. =) Bleah I'll really miss my class. Nvm, at least we're all going up to RJ.
Haha I'm sitting in RISE reh now, typing on an uber screwed keyboard, with most of the letters screwd up. So typos will be cos I'm accidentally pressing the wrong key. Heh, at first I didn't notice, until I saw what keys my fingers were actually pressing.
That aside, last few days have been quite fun, GI training, even though I'm now a gamemaster, I think the experice was worth it. (though interesting to note that 4 out of the 6 gamemasters are from musical groups. But as Prem says, "When life gibes you lemons, you make lemonade and serve it back to life." I hope to make this camp really meaningful for the sec 3 CCALs.
There was also MEP high scorer's concert. Sigh, didn't really play well, and screwed up some places. Well, cest la vie... must overcome stage fright or else I will never play well in front of an audience.
Next week CCAL camp, I'm looking forward to it. Yeah! Go Raffles!

Kitty needs a home. Ask my next door neighbour.

09:53 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2006

Argh, right in the middle of common tests. As Shaggy says though "CTs are nothing... you get to go home early, mug, sleep early, and thus are prepared for the next day" Well Shaggy is..... pro. Anyhow, I guess he IS somewhat right. But there is a lot of stress the few moments right before the paper. And right before every single ominous essay question. Thankfully English and SS are over, as they both contain the most dreaded essays that need to be written.
Distressingly, the food van wasn't around today, so the choice was between RJ canteen and dining hall. Went to the latter due to peer pressure, and convenience. Good thing I didn't go RJ to eat, or would probably have been greatly distracted by... stuff, and wouldn't have carried on mugging for SS.
Open house itself was rather fun. Wushu in RJ does seem like a fairly enjoyable CCA to join, but hmm that on top of Chamber Ensemble might be quite a lot. Spending time with Shaggy Rayner and Zhaohan was great as well. Brought me back to the times we would go out for dinner on Thursdays, really miss that. And, there was that unexpected surprise. Really glad I lived through the first day of CTs for that.
Eeee my friends from other schools think that RJ open house is definitely the worst open house, due to "elitist" mindset. Seems that the ushers in other schools are much more helpful, and the goody bags more interesting (for the materialistic people) Oh well. I guess I'm in no position to argue. Nevertheless, seems that RJ will be fun. Argh now to decide betwen H3 music or H3 maths.... or both....

No I'm not Sirius, I'm Remus Lupin

10:52 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2006

To Zhihao, I don't know much about the details, and I don't you in person, but I send my condolences to his family and friends.
The fact that death can be so close, and so unpredictable is absolutely shocking. Zhihao, I hope you can find your eternal peace.

11:28 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2006

I feel really sad over steve irwin's death. He might have been controversial, but he did have good and informative documentaris, and most of all, any environmentalist is a very noble person.
I wish to send my condolences to his family, and all of Australia for the death of such a unique and noteworthy character.
However... I do think the MSN syndrome of putting (tu) in front of your msn nick to respect him isnt a very good thing. It seems to be turning into a sort of fad... and of unknown origin. I don't think (tu) can symbolise him... admitedly its the only reptile in the emoticon list. But that aside, to truly respect him, I shouldn't be in an emoticon. Words should be the best.

Here's to steve irwin.
Thank you for all your contributions to the society's of man, and animal

09:23 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2006

It was a rather interesting experience. I shall limit my vocab lest I get the water contract cancelled. hehe just joking. They were quite fun=)
today however, I'm still feeling hyper over yesterday. Dont think I've made it through a full hour not thinking about it.

HI MRS WONG! WE ZAO'ED

11:26 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2006

Randomly just picked up gunbound again. Very interesting the types of people. First game i played with a blue dragon as a teamate. like omg! haha then i lost, and he got pissed and left. Well what to expect, he obviously has reputation. After that found a bunch of fun ppl to play with. But then they left.
last game i found the very typical gamer attitude people. I went in, clicked "ready" but the game host didn't seem to be able to start the game. So one of the more impatient people started going. "lager, lager, kik, kik" then i got kicked. Rather amusing though. I doubt my comp was lagging (its really fast =)) haiya some people really have no patience to type out a whole word like kick. and lagger. haha well at least its better than going "F(#%@*%@^ LAGER"
Zasalamel is a fairly interesting character who can't die.

10:52 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2006

Whoohoo. I'm in the school comp lab. I'm supposed to be having Linear Programming now, but Mr Chandru isn't around. YAY two free hours in the comp lab! FUN. I ought to do some theory hw. But nvm, first PIKACHUBALL! or.. ragnarok online. or maybe neopets =P

12:58 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006

Track and Field day today! waved the flag a lot for morrison, but sigh, 4th this year. Crap. At least we've got a nice shirt.
I'm sorry what whacking your head with the flagpole elton!
Anyway, went to North Vista sec for the JGs third prelim rounds, both teams won this time. Arun being a bit extreme, but yet comical. A very outstanding yet, vaguely snobbish way of beating dunman. The main team against NYGH was quite a close fight i would belive, but in the end we won with 3-0. Hmm I couldn't tell lingying and lingxiu apart at first. urgh i'm getting dull.

earlier today was a birthday party for Mr Fong!
Happy Birthday Mr Raymond Fong! 10/3/06
He should be turning 26 this year... or 34, or maybe 28, or maybe 70. I'm not really sure.
Chem practical was quite screwed up... It's probably zinc carbonate though i put zinc oxide. Or maybe its even aluminium. Or maybe I'm just trying to fool the guys who havent taken the practical yet and are trying to get free answers =)

Anyhow, March holidays are here! whoopee! Got a few bdae stuff to get ready.

Ozymandias!

11:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2006

09:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2006

Took AMC today. did 20 questions, 1-20 to be precise. Probably room for careless mistakes bleah. Spent much of today with Sengteck next to me doing AMC past year papers.
PE was suppsed to be fun! playing Tilapia (Tennis Invasion LAPIA) the game invented by yixiang and his group. But mr kwan wasnt here so Mr eric lee took our class. expectedly to do 2.4 and some pushups crunches and step ups. argh my 2.4 timing is bad. dropped 30 sec or so to 11.50. I'm getting fat. Or old, or weak or all three.
Painted the class today! skyblue! a rather pretty colour, and now i have a shirt stained purple (from last years clas painting)and one stained sky blue! yeah.. =)

Valentine's day yesterday! nothing really interesting being in a boys school. Boys generally carry on with their lives not caring much about presents and cards and such, unless they concern a member of the opposite sex. Whereas girls get lots of stuff. My sis has at least 5 cards and 4 flowers and numerous presents, socks, sand and chocolates. I guess theres plus points to it. Don't have to spend extra money. However some classmates did get flowers and such, very interesting... and Mr Fong decided to give us a talk on the origin of Valentines day, which was supposed to be a day of mass orgy. owtch
Anyway that's about all for now

You can't spell manslaughter without laughter!

12:13 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2006

Tiring day today, with a stupid maths test. They should give more time, or i shouldnt waste so much time being careful and double checking matrices, which arent even worth that many marks anyway.
Played some badminton with david during RISE break, but we were both playing badly, (and i was in sch u. prefect book me!)
Old folks dinner was not bad. But i really loved the batch spirit we showed at the end of it. Times like that make you want to hug everyone else... man i hope graduation dinner will be that beautiful.

We see the eagle in the sky. We feel the beating of our hearts together

woah today was a long and tiring day. got home finally at 8.45 after theory class. and hadn't much of a day left to rest and enjoy, cos then mr sze gave me some calling up to do, and maths test and english speech tmr. gah. BUT thank you SO much to ALL of you who remembered, and wished me, in numerous ways, happy birthday. I really appreciate the fact that you all remember =) Special mention to 6 ppl who wished me right after midnight =) Anyway to all, trust me, your birthdays wont be forgotten by this one =D No cards yet, but theres always YO =P

And you never know till you reach the top, if it was worth the uphill climb. There's a fine fine line, between love

04:27 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2006

So I haven't blogged in a super long time. Anyway might as well talk abt my holiday to Las vegas. It was pretty much a fun place. But it would probably be more fun if you were over 21. If you know what i mean. Well watched plenty of shows there, numerous Cirque du soliels, Celine dion, jerry sienfield, and a musical called avenue Q, which was possibly my favourtie of the lot.
Anyway school so far has been pretty much easy and most of my teachers are the same as last year, cept bio SS geog and english. Sec ones have been quite cute so far... except when they cut queue, especially that theyve been in RI for barely a week... Oh well.
So one more day to YO yay! missed it so much.
Raffles Trail on the whole was okay. though there arent enough high level violinists around it seems. Hopefully we can get a good intake.
Well thats about all I can think of for now

11:29 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2005

whee SYO concert yesterday! so fun! especially the uberfast glinka. clear as mud =) but fun nonetheless!!! yay and i got a flower!!! thank you whoever gave it to me =) shaggy got a flower too! (must get him to get together with her) The glazunov was spectacular! ike being ike as usual of course. and his conducting is soooo flashy.
haha yay i feel accomplished too! I did something that i didnt do in Vienna. thank you! (if you ever read this)
RISE concert was three days ago! and shaggy was not bad, in fact he was pro. though close scrutiny of recording, he sounds a bit flat at times. and the prokofiev wasnt too bad either =) Thank you all wind guest players!
hmm heres something interesting. Ike has a super big fan base!

10:50 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2005

right as yihui requests:

Rules of the game: 1) Post 5 weird or random facts about yourself. 2) At the end, write the names of 5 people whom you want to do this quiz, then tag in their blog to leave them a note to tell them to see your blog.

1. i actually do listen to some pop/rock (believe it or not)
2. i have an extensive collection of weaponry, wooden/metal swords, scythes, poles and so on
3. i sleep with a stuffed eeyore
4. i actually find dota boring
5. i seem to be developing a chronic flu...

set now hmm 5 ppl i want to do this
Linxiang, michael, zhaohan, ali, nicole yeo

hmm MDC concert is tmr, most likely to be fun. rayner is breathing down my neck on practising for his quartet. We had our first run through yesterday and it was absolutely hilarious, Ike was annoyed funny, Zhaohan was kawaii funny, and andris was sleepy funny. gosh his work is SERIOUSLY "hip".

RISE camp is coming up next week too, and RISE rehearsals have been much more interesting now with a wind section. haha music is much more complete. and shaggy is still very pro. cant wait to hear the rodrigo soloist.

in short,

Come for the RISE concert RenaISancE *2* 2005!
1st december, thursday, 7.30 pm
NAFA Lee Foundation Theatre Campus 3

Mendelssohn Midsummer Night Overture
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor
Rodrigo Concerto Des Aranjuez
Prokofiev Classical Symphony

please kindly inform me if you are interested =)

i garuntee shaggy will be pro for his violin concerto

hmm well thats about it, class chalet on tuesday was super fun, but exhausting, slept only 45 min and last the next day of rehearsals.

dont put grace notes in semiquaver passages, and you put TWO

04:16 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2005

got my report card, or API or whatever its called. some ridiuclous mistakes. my height is 164cm, and weight is 58kg. Wow, that makes me shorter than yihui.
anyway seems like while i had my lymph and was away from school they did CCA checking, and i wasnt around, so therefore my CCA grades really suck. its half as long as other RISE members, and i have 4 CCAs... well to a certain extent anyway, i hardly go for 2 of them.
Results are bad, with 3.6s and some 4.0s, and just one below that, obviously chinese. Barely can understand her comments.
Went for rehearsal today, and it was quite good, considering it was prokofiev and the winds were sight reading. Mark and Zhengyi are seriously pro.
Was away for CCAL camp from monday to wednesday, Ubin again, sadly not OBS, meaning we didnt have running water. The tent was like an incinerator, so chose to sleep outside on a ground sheet with joel and weiwen. The hike was fun, and my group Lorien, ended up 5th. heh washing mess tins is fun. PT on Wednesday was quite fun, doing a lot of pushups, but the seniors put cheers in between them, so it wasnt as tiring. just got hoarse.
YO rehearsal yesterday was interesting too, Jonlee played Zapateado and its not bad =) he'll probably break into semifinals in the competition. ^_^
anyway going to play my newly installed Warcraft III now, since i just got back from MDC.

Mr Sze, you taught me how to do that

07:25 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2005

my mozart is kinda screwed for now...

05:57 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2005

"did i do ok"
"what do you think"
"not really well"
"you should have more self confidence"
"well...err was it over 80?"
"of course it was."

phew. well one paper over 80 at last... everything so far was been between 60 - 70 which is really really really bad.
argh liebesfreud is letting me down. the lowest of my three pieces, and the piece which got me bad comments in MEP performance. yep, must be my terrible bow control.

ah well, yay 140!! of course could have been better...especially with the super terrible sight reading which i rushed through. 17... is bad.
Well of course on the plus side now i can relax a bit more on schoolwork and have fun trying to play better chess, do better card tricks and so on.
hmmm i wonder...ppl should try to keep their blogs nice and happyish, like ali! all his 36s and whatevers =) a happy blog never gets into trouble...much.

and of course YO is starting again this thursday! wheee, and Saturday hopefully pracitsing Glazunov! i think im nuts over that.

pringles - sour cream and onion

09:38 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2005

"It wasn't easy, but Wink was triumphant in defeating the dragon". Now is not the time to be playing lame Wink games. Neither is it time to play funny stuff i know i shouldnt be trying. like mozart cadenzas, or whatever pro stuff i cant do without looking like i have domkinsons disease.
chemistry file, advanced chem essay. i have completed one chinese zuowen. One left. not bad.
gah....scores scores scores. why isnt prokofiev classical symphony in stock....

01:11 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2005

gah... i think i will fail my mep. liebesfreud is completely out of tune. and my spring is worse than the mozart i just learnt 3 weeks ago. talk about dismal state. conclusion, no more 4.0 for MEP liao. Royce the monster will probably do super well, in addition to his 100% class test. w00t.
chinese zuowen are scaring me.

2 weeks left

05:18 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2005

whatever homework you have left, finish it. unless your teacher is of the nasty kind that will give you zero. My personal motto for the next one week. =) hmmmmm i shall try to adhere to it.
Then of course mugging. and more mugging, and schubert's 8th.
today i noticed another interesting thing. which strengthens my conclusion. cept for one major loophole. wanting to be with her =?= crush her ? hmmmmmm
anyway time for some song lyrics!

You Raise Me Up

when I am down, and oh my soul's so weary
when troubles come and my heart burdened be.
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
until you come and sit a while with me.

you raise up so I can stand on mountains,
you raise me up to walk on stormy seas,
I am stong when I am on your shoulders,
you raise me up to more than can be.

repeat chorus ad infinitum

i suck at singing. oh well

ok this anime drawing looks weird.

02:34 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2005

violin exam over! school term over! malaysia trip over! time for a bit of time to rest.
exam was okayish though obviously could have been much better. Malaysia trip was fun. haha ont go into detail, cept 40 of us pushed a 10770kg bus. fun! =) and i got a harmonica!!! wheee harmonicas are fun.
Last night went to the Maria Elizabeth Lott concert. i loved her encore piece, must find out what it was. It had all the pro virtuostic things inside and still had time for sweet sections. Bruckner Symphony was actually quite boring, apart from the interesting and lively second movement. After the concert went for some ice-cream with wenyi. chocolate...
sniff, had a lijia farewell lunch, to bad i cant go see her off tmr. oh well, marche is expensive...rushed over to YO in a cab. I still think Glazunov is soo nice!

12:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2005

Finally back, and greatly saddened to be too. This Vienna trip has been the most incredible trip I have ever been on, so incredibly amazing, and just indescribable. It has been so much of an eye opener for me, musically, architecturally, culturally, socially, and definitely emotionally. It is a trip I will remember for eons to come and enjoy all the beautiful moments it had to offer. If only I could relive it again…
Fooled around in the airport with shaggy and rayner while the former bought some Singapore shirts for his teacher. Pretty ridiculous notion of course, but nonetheless it had been requested of him. It certainly is quite amusing to see certain people using the free phonecall system in the airport to great extents. You can see all the different styles of talking, the refined, the flirtatious, the daring, all from expression on face and body. How….amusing. Wandered around mostly with “the ike gang”, zhaohan, shaggy and rayner.
The flight was fun I suppose, forgot what they served. Hmmm, watched incredibles several times and then went to sleep. Unlike zhaohan I didn’t watch how people slept, but more watched whether they slept or not. Like shuxiang who slept through almost EVERYTHING, and then expounding his knowledge on how “sleep is good”.
Upon arrival in Vienna we split up into two buses and went on a vienna tour. Lots of photos taken but the tour itself wasn’t really anything that spectacular. Ferris wheel here, Danube there. Temperatures freezing Wilbur and I decided to see who could take off their jackets for longer without freezing. We both won. (crazy idiots we were) The schonbrunn palace however was amazing. 1400 candles in a ballroom! Wutev the candlelighter in those days must have been swearing. Walked around in the beautiful palace gardens with jonlee, weicheng, zhaohan and shaggy. It was massive and for the first time we saw the squirrels. Zhaohan got a few ideas and eventually managed to take a photo of one. The squirrels were daring. They would run all the way up to you and hopefully wait for food. The lunch was…the first of many days of bad packed food. A weird sandwich, a bad pickle, and apple a drink and a biscuit. Owtch. Checked into the hotel, roomed wth shaggy and rayner in 524! Next to us was jonlee zh Joshua and tiappy in 523, then junhong jonlim and alan in 525, followed by ike shuxing and jipson in 526 all connected by balconies. Zhaohan especially loved to balcony hop. Played lots of card games with my roommates and jonlee. I am crap at hearts, though I shot the moon once. Dinner was fun poking fun at zhaohan…darn we were so mean. After dinner rehearsal with us all falling asleep. Shaggy literally fell onto the bed and instantly fell asleep.
Breakfast wasnot bad, ham cheese bacon scrambled eggs bread yoghurt orange juice coffee, tea LIBERAL amounts of all. Trust me though as good as it was. Nothing is great for 8 straight days. Bleahhhhh. Went to the Austria center for rehearsal then attended the opening ceremony, performances and speeches. Kinda boring in a way. Yay doubled word limit with fanbase opposite (it wasn’t supposed to make sense to anyone). It seems customary to clap to radetsky, very interesting. Later had a disco in the most “happening” disco volksgarten discotheque or smth. I didn’t quite like the atmosphere, hurt my ears. And hopping around like an idiot didn’t sound much like fun to me. Played intellectual mind games with many other people instead. From pasir ris, to my toe, to rayner, where next? (like that) Had one person come to our room that night. And because of her, we suddenly had like ten more. Haha not that we minded that much I suppose.
Competition day. The Beijing golden sail orchestra, they look like us, cept the guys had weird collars and the girls, though also full black, cannot compare in beauty. They had long flowing sleeves which made them seem like monks! Wutev… The competition itself was amazing, it was the best the most beautiful brahms I had ever heard or played. To me it was more then just merely playing, I don’t quite know how I played so emotionally it was so good I don’t know what to say. It was as if more than magical. I nearly cried right there after the resounding last chord. The rest of the concert was almost as spectacular, the dance of the yao almost matching up to brahms in terms of emotion. This is one of the few times, that even if we hadn’t won, I really would’ve believed that we had certainly “tried our best” We then left for Pottsching, and found that our wonderful concert hall was to be a small barnyard. Neverthless as much as I thought we might literally bring the house down. During the rehearsal there, the opening of the suppe, when the winds came through, I realized that the acoustics were astonishing, the whole ambience was magical, your little happy village straight out of the fairy tales. We had nice ice-cream, I had zitrone and tiramisu, and that dinner we all celebrated ms cheongs birthday!!! We also took numerous photos of buayan (bryan) who was sitting at the head of a table with 14 girls. The concert that night was the best concert I had ever performed in, it was not so much the skill of the orchestra, the sweet music that was produced, or the wonderful acoustics, but it was the appreciation of the audience. I now really know and feel that audience appreciation is the most important thing in any performance. To go away and leave the audience wonderfully satisfied is a beautiful feeling. We finished our programme with Radetsky, one of the best I’ve ever played with the audience feeling the music with us and clapping along. The good people of Pottsching were even waving us goodbye. We were all feeling high on the way back. Singing like maniacs all the 1.5 hours back. Oh and ms cheong was picked up by the bus driver and swung around as a birthday present. What a dirty old man. Had a lot of fun partying that night. Murderer is a FUN game. And miffie is a pro killer.
The next day was excursion to some abbey of some sort, so medieval and holy. It was such and eyeopener for me. The pipe organ was exquisite. Then we went to some gardens in a town nearby to have horrible packed lunch. Went squirrel searching and found a coupla snails instead. Took photos of them =) later on we performed in some indoor basketball court of a school. I cant say the audience was very appreciative. Typical kids I suppose. Radetsky of course got them applauding along. Then was a maddd rush to the golden hall way back in Vienna for the Mozart concert where the musicians all dressed up in period clothes and the conductor himself looked a bit like Mozart. He was very comical especially when he tried conducting the audience. It was a very tourist based concert I’ll have to say, but it was good. The bassoon solo was beautiful, his melody was shaped well and his playing was flawless, gosh bassoon rocks. The bus rides that day were interesting, and of course treasured. Upon reaching the hotel I think I conked, cant quite remember.
The next day was the release of the results, possibly even the most odd day of mixed feelings. Ever tried being really elated and yet supremely depressed at the same time? Its…weird. Of course the sadness was masked by a wide smile, and the tears were washed away by water (or passed off as tears of joy) But we won! We WON FIRST! And well FINE it was a joint first, but we felt that it should have been ours, maybe cos the other orchestra was so high profile, arh well shant be mean. Took plenty of photos with my section and all. Handshakes and hugs flew, haha no cross gender ones for me though. Haha. We also fooled around outside on the benches playing random pieces, then our tour guide waltzed around to the blue Danube waltz, whee it was so much fun. Later we went to the disco again, and this time I actually tried dancing, I was just laming around TRYING to have fun, well then andris came over and helped me then we started making fools of ourselves and that’s how to have fun in a disco. Felt quite hyper a bit after that. Wutev. Then we went to this music festival thing and rayner shaggy zh and jonlee ordered TWO mega pretzel, its so huge, jonlee took nearly half an hour to finish his HALF. The city hall was incredibly tall, I just kept thinking notre dame when I saw it. Under that building might have been one of the sweetest experiences I’ve ever had. Though I might forget some stuff which might have been said, I wont ever forget what you did. It was a pity to leave so early, but anyway time limits are always so antagonizing.
The next day, early up and go to Salzburg, 4h by bus. Slept much of the way, and played lots of hearts and bridge with a group of people. Finally Salzburg. One of my highlights of the trip. The drumroll please….GLASS HARMONICA. He was PRO stuff, all the glasses and the pro guy was actually moving so fast he could play nutcracker pretty darn well. The street buskers there are good, musicians, artists doing portraits, they were completely pro. There was some guy cutting out people’s side profiles. No tracing no anything, u sit and he cuts u out of paper. PRO. Then I went to the muic store with zh jonlee shaggy and rayner, eventually shaggy and I left to buy presents and then we went to the catacombs. An interesting place, but shaggy whacked his head on the low roof. Some people are lucky to be short. Anyway, Miffie sleeps with her eyes open! Omg is she possessed? Haha its just a bit scary. The next day was a “free and easy” day, where we went…shopping. And more shopping, I got some posters and stuff nothing really spectacular, and in the afternoon wandered around into a girls accessory shop, quite interesting how nice everything was, cept it was super expensive, and so I didn’t get anything for my sis there. Gah I SO should have a bought a little dragon, I have this thing for dragons. The buskers there are awesome. We stopped in front of a trio, with a very good clarinetist, and most likely good violinist (he didn’t show) and a REALLY great cellist. I felt I didn’t give them enough money. Even Mr Lim was in awe. His tone was great and intonation perfect, and his style was pretty darn good too. Anyway the last night in Vienna, first tried out Berlios double violin stuff with zh or shaggy. I didn’t really bother joining the “gambling den” preferring to talk a bit to some people, write a note, and wander around hoping for the best for one of my friends. In the end I went to bed slightly saddened that…..I’ll be going back.
Finally back to Singapore, the flight was fun, with me watching 4 movies! A bit crazy I suppose, I sat with the same bunch of ppl on the way to Vienna. Hardly slept, as I was too busy stealing trusty! =P Then we stopped in KL airport and we got private lounge! It was sooo cool, I broke 2 minesweeper records on the com over there. 8 sec or beginner and 45 sec for intermediate. The KL skytrain is very interesting too, much longer and faster than the one in Singapore. The Malaysian airlines back to sinapore, slept through what shuxiang called the most scary take off and landing. Haha
I have to say, ive been back one day and I already miss Vienna, I miss the massive sculptured buildings and the company. I do want to relive the experience again. Many of the J2s will be leaving sadly, and I am especially sad for shaun ho, though I didn’t know him that well enough, that night I spent talking to him, it showed me a great deal of depth and all, Beverly, though I never really actually got to know you, I still think you rock, and Joyce, my fun stand partner for a period of time, ultra enthu photo taker, Yun Yuan my group leader, I still need to whack you on the back, and jonathan gan, my ex-PSL now im taller than you! Then other people, Junhong you are soooo pro, good luck to you in Yong Siew Toh! You might have been a jerk at times =) but I think you really were a fun person to be with, all your ridiculously funny notions and fun loving character, you’re really great! Haha my old primary 1 classmate I still remember. And the Lijia, I haven’t known you for that long, but I’m sure I know u much better after the Vienna trip, a pity to see such a pro violinist leaving, I wish I had the time to have got to know you better, good luck in your future endeavours! This had been my last chance to talk to most of these people, and Vienna really had been a once in a life-time experience, not just about having fun with friends, but playing good music, really feeling the music for once and learning about and understanding people, seeing how they were like in the company of others, and also enjoying that company.
Life isn’t about the number of breaths you take, but it is about the moments that take your breath away. All those breathtaking moments I’ve had in Vienna, I’ve treasured and I’d like to thank everyone who has made this trip to Vienna, really enjoyable for me and I’ll treasure it, and remember for eons to come. Thank you ever so much. Danke schön

you have been the nicest shoulder to cry on

first vln outing, went to watch madagascar. you go watch it, during the movie u laugh at it, when its over, u laugh at urself for watching it. Self pity as junhong puts it. talked crap at starbuck, and i tried a blended chocolate. a looot of chocolate...guuh it isnt always good.
very fun outing nevertheless with junhong being as funny as usual, and lijia and zabrina and candice laughing like crazy. i wonder how they will fall asleep in vienna, being that they're all rooming together, and once one laughs, the others crack up for prolonged periods of time.

dunno if its the same...but take THAT ian. hah!

06:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005

SMO today...no comment. i just was mercilessly slaughtered. so what, prove to sengteck im incompetent? whatever
Mep camp was...not as fun as expected. our group leader was not bad, quite capable of getting the group going, and most of all, competent. our sub-group leader was, just lousy. I have nothing against his character, but a sub-group leader who just stones or laughs with his friends? come on, nothing contributed. arh well, guys will be guys.
gave several people a lift back to different places...odd, heh. SMO again tmr, and mep camp, I hope im not stoned for detrimental or prejudiced comments.

the irony of it all

you know, i hate the way he makes so much sense

11:20 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2005

phew masterclass over. screwed up. interesting how u get more nervous as the piece progresses on, and i wasnt exactly that nervous when i first started. oh well thats over. and so is that.
hmmm shanghui, shaggy or sluggy or kickapoo, i think i'll stick with the shaggy :P. wheeeeee~ so funny!
maybe i wont boil his fats. no, i'll just mince his. =)

star wars III is really great! much better than 1 and 2 at any rate. though some things are quite odd. For example it seems that mace windu is in fact more powerful than yoda as he beat palpatine and yoda lost. hmmmmm. if jedi could slice their way through armies of battle droids, why couldnt they do it to the clone army? well anyway great movie though more should have been explained why grievous was so badly injured, and they neglected to say "watch the cartoon to find out how palpatine was captured and mace windu crushed Grievous' lungs!" and well grievous put up an interesting fight, but not exciting enough. lost too many hands too quickly, and in the end taken down with a ...blaster? would have been more interesting to fight with two sabers first, then suddenly pull out the other two.

Anyway great pict here
compliments to whoever painted it :D

Dooku was pitifully weak though, well yepp i might just want to watch that movie again, heh opening was quite action-packed.
Anyway movie aside, Hilary Hahn put up a great performance yesterday, great tone quaility, too bad she didnt do a funky virtuoistic (however you spell it) encore. But at any rate, her bach encore was great.
hmmmm mep composition due, and masterclass in a week, im so dead....and if i carry on like this i might just...gah slice off his fats and boil them.

Feel my anger

i want to slice off his fats and boil them

09:57 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005

Hilary Hahn tmr, and tonight Carl and nicholson are going. Surprising, even daniel wuyang is going! so cool.
Anyway today there was no sch, cept founders day, went in the morning to blister my thumb on the PS and playing violin.

what an interesting day today was. "The dark clouds of the sith" -aaron tan must have made it that way. Wenbin is so cute in short hair! heh hes now a diver, maybe cos of his perfect eyesight, anyway, i now owe liqian $3.50 and wenyi 50c. I knew i shoulda brought more money. DARTS ARE FUN! throw throw throw.....maybe one of them will hit maggie.... :D just joking maggie, no offence!^^

and so it ends

07:27 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2005

ARgh, One paper left...geog, for that sole reason alone, one might have taken hist....but heck. one more day then i can slack (as if im not already) Listen to Passacaglia! try to play it! and fall over! (and break your last finger on your right hand, and the fourth on the left) Tzigane........ ok this entry doesnt make any sense at all. Liebesfreud is going to kill me.
Ends mindless rant

not incredibly happy, quite the opposite

11:16 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2005

debate finals...we lost. darnit. Well it was close. Good job to acs What got me was that this girl in front of me was writing things like "RI IS GOING DOWN!" "ACS(I) WILL WIN. THEY ARE SHUAIGE AND COOL SO GOT STYLE!" and other fangirl comments. Right. I suppose if debates come down to "coolness" we might as well have another reality "idol" show. If she enters a intellectual battle with this mindset, I suggest she go no further.
CTs are soon. Much too soon. Im so dead

let's do a reality check and see if we have shifted into antoher interplanetary dimension

08:21 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005

badminton ppl are pro. whee~ befre reh in the hall today, we all walked in carrying the stands and it seems that we forgot to close the door. Big nono, Mr badminton coach starts screaming like an angry badminton coach. So we all dao him. then he stops, then we have a fun rehearsal, fun but incredibly HOT due to the fact the aircon wasn't on. Arh well.
Seven days left to SYF

Suntentatsu

10:22 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2005

haven't blogged in a while. SYF in 14 days....must get gold with honours, otherwise we'll look bad next to RIMB and choir.

11:43 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005

Yawn, MEP essays, are driving me crazy. And that unfinished zuowen, dont think i can do it in time. Rehearsals are fun but tiring, can't wait for the syf to be here!

You broke the chain!...but you waited for me?

02:20 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005

a bit late to update, but anyway day two of the math camp was quite dao mei. shall not talk about that. anyway ive realised that the thomas ang in group 5 is actually my violin teacher's student as well. anyway, missed the camp leaders dinner + audrye's bdae dinner cos of syo photoshoot. Where we all stood in the hot sun in longsleeve shirt, jacket, and bowtie, with the over eccentric photographer jumping and running around going. "that's right! one, two and a three!" "you there are u a girl or a boy! i said girls bend down a bit!" "That little shorty! move back some more!" "hey you there! in the white jacket!" (riight which one? we're ALL in white jackets!), nevertheless, i think photographers have to pass the soc to qualify, he was practically jumping around onto high platforms to get good shots.

Well anyway, SYO concert is tmr, if youre not going, thats too bad, cos you'll miss a great concert! sibelius violin concerto! and whooo, zhoahan's violin teacher is lynette lim as well! :D

dominic seet and geog remedial do not go well together

07:34 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005

day one of math camp over. relatively fun, and now benedict has started calling me cryptomaniac cos i worked out the cryptoscript and started writing lame messages. anyway, apart from my braces hurting a LOT the camp was fun. However< the temporary group i was assigned to was a flop. they did their skit impromptu cos they spent the whole prep time talking rubbish. cant say that they werent hilarious though. after camp, went to orchard with benedict zoulong, qianchen, ronald and weehsuan, wanted to see series of unfortunate events but sold out so we had dinner instead. Now to try and draw smth and ee if i feel like doing hw. (like real)

9:18 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2005

Casteels farewell dinner today. hmm wonder why he left. Anyway it was relatively fun, fooling around with a dartboard with random people, like yizhe, glen, jipson. most of the fun was talking to people :D anyway, i hope i dont have any homework cos i cant think of any to do! nitez!

who is singing?

9:50 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2005

another fun rehearsal day, (though mr sze did say "certain first violins keep talking during rehearsal and so please stop it now." meaning me, dominic, and samuel i suppose) other than that, we had lots of fun playing mutant academy 2 on PS, and I seem to be a Forge killer now, defeating Kevin's forge and Jingxun's forge. owtch, i think kevin reeeeaaally is pissed cos that cant be good for his reputation of being the most pro PS player. Of course if kevin used anyone else, i would be soundly thrashed.
Thanks to the fact that my com has been attacked by a virus, not only can i not use msn (which has been that way for 2 months) i can't go to hotmail, yahoo, asknlearn, e-messenger and so there isnt much point turning on the com now. I really should get a new computer. sighz. So during math, we were using graphmatica in the com lab and i was checking my mail. Mr Fong was slightly annoyed in the "Mr Fong is lame" way. basically saying "Remus close that window. I am psychic and can see that you are doing something that you are not supposed to be doing." riight. Its not like Sengteck wasn't playing neopets or something. Anyway Sengteck and roger found it great fun to create different polygons and wavelenghts using equations like x^2+y^2=0 or y=cos(x). cheemology.
Debate competition RI team 2 VS UWSC team 1, RI team 1 VS IJTP team 2. I really hope they both won. Especially team 2.
SYO is still very fun, with Lim Soon Lee being a VERY nice conductor who ends up giving us half hour breaks and he calls them "short breaks". comparing that to Mr Sze who calls "long breaks" 15min. But not that I'm complaining. And New World Symphony is still funfunfun. though I'm probably the most out of tune 1st violin, and screwing up my bowing and stuff all the time.
Well not much else to do on the com now...might as well go try and finish some homework.

10:50 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2005

sectionals today! quite fun, and as usual SMP ppl didnt come. more than half those assessed today failed...owtch i might not pass after all. anyway some more tests this week, hopefully dominic will be spending too much time mugging to do other things...evil me :D

but sir! im very stupid!

09:16 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2005

feeling quite bored EVEN THOUGH i have a lot of homework. the art of procrastination. Anyway the AMC was relatviely hard. amc 12!?! and some Track and field heats, I didnt get to throw the javelin, and didnt qualify for shot putt cos i fouled. Darn, there isnt any SYO today, and nothing exceptionally interesting happened during MEP. Went to Var room to play PS, thrashed Samuel, got thrashed by Kevin, got slightly beaten by Jingxun. Whenever you need a nice good laugh, just go to alan koh's blog. Read what spawns from the head of the only person I know whose ambition is to be insane. Laughter is the best medicine. Anything can be found there, from his sadistic obssession with nuclear bombs and starcraft, and anything he feels about girls, and the crisis of his life.
Anyway, no offence to alan done i hope.
CNY has been more or less fun, playing a few games of "Betrayal on the house on hill" with my cousins. Evidently theyve been hit by the halo bug, and are playing non-stop. I have probably gained a few kg due to eating massive chinese lunches and dinners for three straight days, a total of 6 lohei, and wouldnt you believe it, only 2 of them actually had raw fish in them. sadly there's no SYO this week arh well wasting my time pretending i dont have a mountain of homework and fooling around with anagrams.

invent delays is coming

12:50 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2005

Sectionals with Foo say ming yesterday, quite fun, though i think I was horribly out of tune.
Teachers really know how to give homework, half of them say "Let u enjoy your CNY so hand in on monday" the other half say "CNY is a great time to do big project works and hard homework, so go and do" Eventually, u just get...a lot of homework.
Dunno whether i wanna go back to nanyang again this year, maybe I'll see who else is going back.
Feeling happier today, cos there's going to be a nice long holiday and stuff, yipee! Darned HCI, they seem to be getting the ENTIRE week off.

a not so silent night

10:43 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2005

Michael's blog is indeed interesting.
School is getting slightly interesting again, for every single lab lesson i am at the last row, regardless of chem (with tuckheng), phys (with benedict) or bio (with zoulong). arh well, that what u get for being a late index number.
I happen to have a very easy but annoying math assingment, which i have resolved to complete in school, so now, I think I'll go practice some violin. Slovenian dances are funn.

07:44 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2005

Im soo going to fail my NAPFA this year.
Anyway, chem labs are fun, you take litmus paper, put in sodium hydroxide, it turns blue, put in hydrochloric acid, it turns red, put somemore sodium hydroxide it turns blue again, more acid, red, more hydroxide... hangon, it's stopped changing colour. damn. get a new piece of litmus paper. repeat process.... (im so bo liao)
Ali makes bio lessons very fun, cos he can talk crap and still give you all the answers. Simple statement, Ali rocks. Anyway today Pe was fun too, me linky and yichen beat sengteck daniel and ari 4-2 in hockey. whoopee~ *gloats at them evilly* (just joking)
I tried out Mcdonald's attempt at curly fires. one thing to say to them "keep trying guys, keep trying, though its better than ordinary ones, you're a long way away from A&W" On my way back to school , this old man stopped me and started asking me and Adam questions in Cantonese, I looked at Adam, blank response. I mean, english is fine, chinese i can manage, even hokkien perhaps, but cantonese!? no chance. I just kept nodding my head and saying "diu4 diu4" to whatever he said hopefully he understood that i didnt understand him, and he eventually walked away.

Gosh, it still intrigues me, that in this whole wide world, there is only one trevor sze. Try searching trevor sze yourself on yahoo, or google, its mainly blogs, blogs, blogs, concert, and blogs, all refering to the same Mr Sze. Well anyway, there's two periods of RE tmr, so I think i should be able to slack a bit.

New World Symphony is FUN, and VERY NICE. One of Dvorak's best! (except the third movment)

Hakujin no tachi

9:50 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2005

Yawn, debate competition is over, 12th is better than 16th i suppose, but what dyo expect when u go up agaisnt WSDC and other JCs. Late for YO cos of the competition, but i dont think lim soon lee was angry about it *phew. I wonder why ppl tag on tagboads as unnamed ppl, sometimes it isnt justified, like when you swear at the other person, that is pure cowardice, but i suppose asking questions anonymously is fine.
Anyway i think im going to bed early, goodnight

09:13 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2005

Ermph, today I have decided to bitch about things. I think I can call the TO first vln section the "Hate Arrogant Remus Club" Yes i know its mean, but I have absolutely nothing against them. If they want to waste their effort and Karma hating me, they can go ahead and do so, I will just feel slightly pained. Evidently, I have left a legacy of quite a few of them hating me, thanks to me being a showoff haolian prick. But i wonder how to be haolian if youre a lousy violinist anyway? Maybe they didnt notice I used to set up the chairs for them, maybe they did, but anyway

school today was quite fun, played basketball with some 2J ppl and was soundly thrashed, even though we outnumbered them 11 to 6. Ngiam is a bloody chariot. He grabs the ball and bashes through everyone. Not to mention he is huge. And the rest of them are also bloody pro. heh, but it was fun nonetheless. Chinese was very boring, I dont think im going to survive the year, and even worse, I'm going to die for the debate competition on Sat. I think Ive bitched enough, nitez all.

Why waste your hate on someone who doesn't care?

10:24 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2005

back from OBS! It was great! Might as well go through the events like so many other people on their blogs. At the jetty, we all boarded different ferries/ speedboats and set off for camp two on Pulau Ubin. When we got there, there was an opening speech and we all split off into our different watches (Cook) and instructors (Wee How) We were given our five days wrth of food and the key to our storeroom, and then we went kayaking! not quite though. First a loong time spent on the parts of a kayak, how to carry a kayak, how to use the oars, how to get in, how to get out, and finally...we brought our kayaks down to the beach. It was sadly low tide, so in order to get out, we would have to walk through a long distance of clayey mud, which Zachary called "shit" and a few people lost their shoes. Eventually we found some shoes, but those must have been there for a few years. Then we learnt how to capsize properly and finally when we brought all the kayaks down to the water, Wee How decided that the tide was too low to kayak, and so we didnt actually get to kayak. There was obvious displeasure, but we cleaned up our immensely dirty water shoes and got learnt how to pitch tents, cook, and tie knots. That was the end of day one. The next day, we woke up early in the morning to reach the jetty by 7, to do the jetty jump! That was fun, except Sengteck took a looong time to decide whether he wanted to do it, saying he was "stressed" and everything, but Id rather not go into details. In the end he didnt do it, but then we went to kayak! (replacement session) It was now hightide, and the "shit" wasn't visible, so it was an easy walk to the water and we went kayaking for about an hour, capsizing rescue drills too. We returned to camp to do belaying, lunch and flying fox. My watch and our buddy watch Armstrong were the only watches who did the flying fox in camp two i think, it was shorter, but much faster than the one in camp one, which was very long, but half the speed. Anyway, we all went up, and flew down screaming something. Only Sengteck didn't try for reasons unknown. Finally, we trekked down to our new campsite, a rocky site near the old jetty, a few hundred metres away from a very visible johor. We pitched our tents there and sat down on the rocks and learnt from Hillary and Tenzing how to scream "Ngiam" trend started by Yijing. When we finally got to sleep, Johor decided to have a very late night party (12 plus), with LOUD BLASTING oom-pah! and Very loud karaoke, which could easily be heard from across the strait. But i guess we were too tired to bother. Day three, we got up, unpitched our tents again, and set off for the quarry! We had to build our own rafts and then make sure it could hold all sixteen of us and Wee How. We got our raft down to the quarry, the pipes went down, the barrels came up, but anyway, it still held. After that, we played water captains ball. Even though tuckheng was on our team, Armstrong had Ronald Kong and Andre. On top of that, their instructor Gideon was much better at catching and so we lost 9-3. After that, we pulled the rafts out of the quarry, dismantled them, and changed into our trekking suits for the land expedition. This was when a few RG watches decided to turn up, so changing became a huge problem. Nevertheless, we went deep into the forest to change. After lunch, we set off trekking to four checkpoints and finally, after much singing and walking, we got to camp one. Just in time for a CAFETERIA DINNER! Of course most of us went crazy at the chairs and the food and the cordial drinks. Around this time, the sea expedition people came back looking very sunburnt, except for Sean yap. It was a pity i never did get to try the Sea Ex. Then we got into our tents to begin day four. Day four was tripod climbing, and rock climbing. Seng Teck took ages on both of them, and never did complete them, but that's too bad for him. Rock climbing, I reached the top (12 panels) and it was achievement for me. Though tall people do have a certain advantage on the rock wall. After lunch, we trekked back to camp two and pitched our tents there for the night. Joel decided to start a campfire with all the leftover fuel and then everyone started becoming pyromanic as we all got out cans of insect repellent and lighters. Eventually an instructor came down and told us not to play with fire, so we had to put out our campfire and went to sleep. Finally, day five. Tuckheng went around burning things on the ground. He stumbled upon a lenght of green tiwne lying on the ground, and fused the end together. Then big trouble. Some person from Cousteau said he needed the twine for sailing and it was too short cos of the end being fused and he had made it PERFECT lenght and he demnded to be compensated in camping materials that his watch had lost. Even though tuckheng agreed to pay him back the $2.50 which the twine would have cost, the guy demanded tent pegs. Well obviously we didn't give in as it was completely unreasonable and their arguement was quite flawed. We certainly couldnt repay the loss of private property with obs property. Anyway, apart from that, Guanyu started flamethrowing insects. Quite cruel of him, so Wee How stopped him. We got into our final circle to talk and then set off for camp one. The cafeteria was immensely crowded what with RG being there as well as four reserved tables, and we had to sit there waiting outside to get our food. Anyway after lunch, RG left for the jetty and we went on with our Redox Finale. A lot of different activities and brainteasers which ended with Michael doing some Chem experiment. Finally, we left for the jetty back home.
On the whole, I found the whole thing enjoyable and it was certainly a new experience for me. I do know my classmates a lot better now, and I find Zhiwen to be really a great guy. Well todays my last day of being fourteen whoopee! :D

You'll find out later

03:48 p.m. Saturday, January 1, 2005

I just came back from a family reunion in Xiamen a couple of days ago, and I have to say it was certainly more enjoyable, interesting, and memorable than the one we had in Singapore, year 2000. I do know quite a few more cousins now, and I've just realised I've got a cousin in RI. Gosh I must be blur. Well I still haven't quite worked out what "cousin once removed" means, but heck.
I still have a certain amount of school work left to be done, but two days should be long enough to finish the rest of it.
Also, MSN is getting quite annoying with the 150 contact maximum, and next year I'm probably going to have to add the rest of my new class so seems like I will have to find space somewhere.
Apart from all that, I'm gald to be back in Singapore, and not eating monotonous seafood like in Xiamen. That being "Oyster omelette, fish, prawn, oyster omelette, squid, more fish, oyster omelette, squid, funny looking thingy, sea cucumber, and wow look, oyster omelette again"
Anyway, school starts soon, can't wait to get back and have fun with friends!

You have to eat oyster omelette in Xiamen, otherwise you're wasting your trip there

well this is the first time im blogging overseas... hmmmm, or maybe this is the first time i've actually bothered to look for internet connection in the hotel. Conrad hotel in Bali is great, but the bathroom amneties are well, shall i say unique. Not much here, just sun, sand and sea, the usual. Burning hot when it doesn't rain, when it does, well that has yet to come. Being the person I am, i haven't brought any homework with me here, but somehow my mom will find some way to make me work. but that's all for now, using this nifty contraption called broadband to acess neopets. =)

sea water is therapeutical

11:24 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2004

nothing much to do, can't bear to look at the holiday hw which slowly is adding up from asknlearn. i suppose the SYO concert was quite fun and everything :P cept the jacket i got was much to big, figured that one much too small would be worse. Now my bro is back from UK and he just got Devil May Cry, and we're all going Dante crazy i think. SPARDA SPARDA! It is fun and scary in the gory way. before the title screen they have IMPORTANT: This game contains explicit scenes of gore and violence. In about six different languages. though a bit more blood on the marionettes would look better and they would be slightly scarier.
As for new year resolutions, just maybe mug a bit more :P and must practice more violin. Dominic managed to get form pathetic to insane in 2 years, i suppose i can do that.

All that was once good in this neighbourhood will soon be gone

11:01 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2004

havent been blogging for a while, was in perth on sch trip. It was very fun especially the farmstay and the math trail in Fremantle. Now Im back and theres RISE concert with SLO, and SYo concert. whee

You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me

12:41 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2004

Well feeling a lot happier and refreshed after a great camp, and to quote the phrase "chi1 bao3 fan4 mei2 shi4 zuo4" which is entirely true, I shall talk about camp. First up, reporting in, went in with Jingxun after spending the night cutting cloth at his house. Instead of starting with rehearsal, we played a game called Werewolves. Kinda like polar bear, but basically everyone closes their eyes, some werewolves elect by sign language who to kill. Next morning, poor sucker gets taken out, villagers (including werewolves) decide a person to execute. If the person was a human, tough beans, if it was a werewolf good for them. Game goes on till either all werewolves are dead, or the werewolves outnumber the remaining villagers. Some extra rules like a little girl who can peek at werewolves and can identify them. So the first game I was choosen for werewolf, died quite late cos around 11 humans got killed including the little girl, Samuel Lim (spotted peeking by me =) ) so the werewolves won. Second round I was a normal villager, and the villagers won, probably kinda getting the hang of it. But in that game I was executed in the second round, but as it is, watching the game is almost as fun as participating.

Rehearsals followed by lunch, Samuel's wallet almost getting smashed by a lorry, thankfully I was behind him and picked up his wallet in time. More rehearsals and then soccer. Weicheng and some of his JC1 friends joined us in a junior VS senior match. Then dinner and movie Troy. Helping Jingxun with getting the night game ready, after Troy ended we played the night game.

It was a mass tail event. Tails dispensed at base, try to kill enemies (1 point an enemy tail) and save your skin (1 point friendly tail left). Grab control points by defending them, mainly the five points gryphons lair, Astroturf, Junior block, hall watercooler, and Under clocktower (each 30 points when held at end of game) Then the commando army, to create havoc => Mr Sze (20 points) Jingxun Jonathan Muk, Shanghui, and Zhaohan (5 points each) they can't win, but you can see why they are worth being scared of. Started the game on a slightly unbalanced footing as blue (my team =)) was a bit overpowered. We held the hall watercooler, astroturf and clocktoer and eventually won the game. The first 1h or so was fine everything hunky dory, a few people getting killed. but the last 20 min, Red team amassed a massive force to take out the clocktower 12-15 of them on 7 of us. Poor them =) Zhaohan got killed by a guest player (Looooser=) ) and thats about it. Then washup sleep. I sneaked into the Varese room where the committee only was allowed, but heck played Risk with them. Me, Mr Sze and Nicholson vs Jingxun, Rayner and Shanghui. Won by quite a fair bit. Sleep, wakeup, breakfast, rehersal, soccer, lunch, rehearsal, movie (Ocean's Eleven), dinner, rehearsal. Then night games again.

Mr Sze gets three bodyguards, he chose Adriel, Dominic Seet and Adam. Sze hides and wwe find him without being killed. We didn't have a chance. Though Jingxun screwed up his one and only chance to end the game, darn he should have walked past that pillar. About 1h later and me hiding a lot thanks to Samuel Tho's persistent persuasion
Second night game was hide from Mr Sze and try to track down his location and collect the cards he dropped. I got mosquito bitten from my hiding place with Samuel Lim, but the worst part was that Mr Sze didn’t even go there! Darn, Nathaniel was 1m in front of me staring at me, but he didn’t even sense me.

Dismissed and I played Risk again, this time a FFA. We obviously couldn’t finish it. Next morning breakfast, rehearsal, Samuel lost his wallet after breakfast, seems to be tradition to lose his wallet every camp, then mass dunking session. Started out small scale dunk a few ppl who screwed up during night games, but then after Jon Muk was pushed in while he was dunking another person, everyone got into the pool. All cept Zhaohan as he was left on his own. I think he felt that getting into the pool was an uncool thing to do and so was entirely against it. Zenn was very cute when he was thrown in screaming. This was followed by rehearsal and then we ended the camp with a camp survey... Samuel being a JACK found his wallet which he had lost UNER HIS OWN BAG!

Now I’m back home and really sleepy I think I’ll wake up at 12 tmr afternoon.

Oh my son

Nothing much happening, just lots of fun rehersals and not quite so mch as fun but fun nevertheless anyway debate trainings.
Recently went to the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra concert, the orchestra was gooooood, the soloist wasn't quite that good however, even though he had won so many prizes. Beethoven Violin conerto hmmm no as good as some I've heard. But the orchestra piece, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an exhibition, that was Great! I've got to add it to my, to-get CD list. Darn should have gone for the Brno philharmonic orchestra though, I heard it was better, ANd I would have got free tickets for that one. Darn.
SE camp next week and I just can't wait

The last stick is in Daryl's head. He's using it as a brain

Yesterday was the last day of school, last day I'd be with 2L. Man I'm going to miss you all, we've been through lots together, and I think, even without one of you, we just wouldn't be the same. Even Wenjun. So I wanna thank you all for making my first two years in RI really great. Thankfully, RISE will be the same, and some ppl will still be in my class next year. hopefully liqian will be. I've decided to take bio+geog, cos lit is a bit odd in scoring and geog is interesting, however history and lit are interesting too, but history i suppose doesnt appeal to me as much as geog. I dunno why i decided on geog over lit in the end, but i think its cos there's that hance you might not be able to score in it.
Anyway to 2L I won't forget all the fun times we've been through, and also I'm sorry all the people I've pissed off, and we'll stay together as a great class in spirit!
HM also left school, darn I hope the next one will be just as supportive of the SE as Mr Wong was. We played Auld Lang Syne, and Zhaohan was screaming at me for not playing in tune. So fine, i wasn't in tune, how bout sean neo? how bout Joel Kan, are whatever.

Well looking to a new year nxt year :P so lame statement and of course still looking forward for the CAMP. whoopee

An unpleasant wind is blowing, bringing bitter coughs. I'm the only one who believes the era has lost its way.

ermph badminton inter-class, i wonder why none of the school team players were articipating, i supposed that made it fairer, BUT except in the finals, 2B just has to go and pull out Alex thrashing Gary and me 10-7, 10-5. and zou long was in the way blocking one of the shots, but referee kayu and counted it. oh well.
funnily, 2P didnt play a single match and got into the semi finals, cos first they were seeded, than their next opponets didnt show up, so instant double win.
not much else that happened during the 2 Relax day

Went to st john's island today and visited the Tropical Marine Science Institute. Started out by me asking Mr Toe how badly i did for my math paper and he told me not as expected....basically, bad. but anyway we traveled to the island by ferry, conveniently called Princess JASPER! and the other boat that was in service was called Princess Sapphire. (SETHire!) but that aside what we did was have a lecture, have a tour, find out that sea cucumbers have a lot in common with Gary, had lunch, went to get some phytoplankton and zooplankton analysed them in the lab, found a prawn larvae that was incredibly tiny, about a small thin pencil mark. Underneath the power microscope it was HUGE filling up the whole screen, and then under the same microscope, we saw a tiny copepod (was it a copepod?) that was even smaller than the size of the prawn larvae when it was not under microscope, so i do wonder how incredibly small it was. Then lunch, Gary had pringles for lunch as he fogot to bring a packed one. hen group photo and we went back to the pier. Some singing "Yellow Submarine" because it abosolutely pissed off Ziguang. (eventually he got seasick and had to go outside). Then went to Raffles Place, took MRT back to novena with liqian.
Tomorrow i will finally find out how bad my math paper really was....

Whee.. finally exams are over :P I died in hmm..chinese (duh) geog (aeroponics) math (stomachache) and science (human insulin). other than that, it should be ok. went to watch "white chicks" with liqian and arun, cos joshua had to go for a prefect campaigning briefing. darn, i was supposed to go HMV with him. Anyway the movie was quiet funny, and most of you probably know "triple T K A. Time to TOTALLY KICK ASS" then i played some scrabble with liqian, with him drawing "q" AND "z" in the first draw. lucky..... now i suppose i have to get back to violin, but of course im wasting my morning away looking for rurouni kenshin music to arrange/transcribe whatever you call it. and pictures too :P

HASH(0x8a50ce0)
You're the color blue. You have the three c's in
life--you're cool, caring and confident.
Trustworthy and honest, people are naturally
attracted to you. You're unusually optimistic,
but that makes life all the better. You're an
imaginative person who loves sleeping and
dreaming. Hard-working and determined, you
excell in school. You're everybody's favorite,
and this is because you have this undefined
richness in your personality and attitude.
Mild-tempered and stable. Not to mention very
intelligent. Along with the fact that you're
conservative, you're worried about the
environment. So basically, you're a generous,
dependable and devoted--just the kind of person
everybody needs. Wouldn't it be great if
everybody in the world were like you?

What color are you? (Amazingly detailed & accurate--with pics!)
